An Ode on His Grace the Duke of Devonshire's being promoted
to the lieutenancy of Ireland.
Humbly inscribed to his excellency, by Mr. Robert
Reading, only son of the Hon. Colonel Reading, deceased.
While awful cannon with tremendous roar,
Emit their thunder from the trembling shore:
On this auspicious morn, the rising sun
With pompous glory, drove his charriot on
Deck'd with transcendant rays, Devonia's Lord,
To whom Augustus had bequeth'd his sword.
